Plan Tier Summary
- Bronze: Cheapest monthly payment, but higher costs when you get care. Good for healthy people or those who rarely visit the doctor.
- Silver: Middle ground. And if you qualify for subsidies, Silver plans can be much more affordable (only Silver plans qualify for cost-sharing reductions).
- Gold: Higher monthly cost, but much lower costs when you need care. Good if you use healthcare services regularly.
- Platinum: Highest monthly cost, but barely any costs when you get care. Ideal if you have chronic conditions or high medical needs.
Essential Health Benefits
All ACA plans—regardless of metal tier—must cover the same essential health benefits, like:
- Preventive services
- Hospitalization
- Prescription drugs
- Mental health care
- Maternity and newborn care
What differs is how much you pay vs. how much the plan pays.
